Good weather was experienced by the Moe»aki, which arrived at Wellington on Monday from Sydney and Hobart, until she had passed Stephen Island, at 11 a.m. on Monday. From this point a strong couth-easterly gale was experienced, and this delayed tho vessel considerably,. Tho Mooraki has on board'l6Bß tons of cargo, all of which is to he discharged at Wellington Mr R. N. Oow has joined tho Patcena as third officer in place of Mr William Ormiston, According to a special message to tho Dunedin “ Star." tho Timaru Harbour Board’s icvonuo has shrunk considerably during tho war period, and (fie board has been searching lor a remedy. Tho chairman (Mr F. J. RolJeston) announced at a recent meeting that be had mndo inquiries, and had found that the Lyttelton Hcrbo.tr Board had increased etl their charges by 10 per cent. Timaru already had reached the legal limit in respect of some charges, but it would bo possible to impose a charge that would affect coastal ana intercolonial shipping which at present escaped very lightly. Some years ago the board bad charged a harbourmaster's fee ot one penny per ton, which was paid only by •mailer vessels, but this charge had been abolished .’n favour of fees (or pilotage. If tho harbourmaster's fee were put info force again it would probably produce about £BOO per annum. After a brief discussion the meeting agreed to restore the harbourmaster’s teo at the earliest possible moment. Mr Rollcston also mentioned that it had been rumoured that overseas shipoing would not continue to call at, Timaru. Ho had therefore communicated with the Overseas Comnuttoe, and had a reply stating that Timaru would not bo overlooked.

Mariners who have been long connected with the port of Wellington havci recollections of her last appearance there. She arrived there from Lyttelton on October 16, IEBB, and left on October 27, Captain Walker was then in charge of tho vessel.
