Private Roland Sinclair Williams, of Ashburton, who was reported in yesterday’s issue as a prisoner of war, is still in the firing line. Mr A. Kibhlo, editor of the “'Ashburton Guardian,” has been passed as fit for military service, and ordered to parade lor camp in January. Air X. P. Digby, who has boon North Canterbury agent for the firm of Pyno and Co. for the. past two years, has been promoted to the position of manager of the firm’s branch at Kaikoura. Prior to his departure from Cnlverden, where he has been located, Mr Digby was entertained at a smoko social by tiie residents of the district, and presented with a cheque for a substantial anioufitf : ;; Alr F. E. Croft presided, and referred to the efficient ami genial manner in which Air Digby had carried out his duties, and to the willing way he had always responded to any request, for assistance in regard to entertainments for patriotic purposes. His qualification's as an auctioneer caused many requests for his services in respect to sales of work, produce, etc., in connection with Rod Cross funds, and such services were always gladly given by t heir guest. During the evening songs wore contributed by Alessrs Orchard. .Smith and Nottingham, and a recitation by Air Flewcllyn.
