Now's the time for influenza, ■Sunless days and sweeping '.-ales; When we cough in sad cadenza, ’ Through our winter ills end ai's, Now’s the time when sore throats Eight us '.And when-' coughs and colds are sure; Now is.the time for dread Bronchitis, And for Woods' Great Peppermint Cure. 2J ■ : ’PPeai on the ground of occupation' was brought before the Military bervme Bottrd at Auckland by Arthur G-. AV niton (Mr H. Skelton). , Appellant stated that he had bought a property consisting of ten acres of gum land, at Birkenhead, about four years ago, and had turned part of it into a unit and vegetable orchard, producing large crops of strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, etc. During the time he had been there he. had greatly improved the property and increased the output. Counsel expressed the opinion 'that appellant should be allowed, to remain on the farm, as he was a. producer, and the only worker there. Major Conlau: “ The production o? tomatoes and strawberries can hardly be called essential. I take it essential production means wool, butter, milk and other necessaries, not luxuries!” Mr Anderson: “ Anyone can grow tomatoes in their back gardens, and people could do without strawberries altogether.” Mr Skelton: ‘''Well, he is doing most valuable work, turning this barren soil, which ordinarily would not support a. goal, into good, producing larm land. Such a man should bo allowed to remain in the interests of the country.’' “ Quito all right, if there didn’t happen to be a war on," coinmen ted Major Conlah. The board decided that as exemption had previously been granted, appellant should bo allowed tn reap the, fruit of his labour. Leave was granted until January 9. I
