TRAMWAY COPPER TRAIL.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Tramway Copper Trail met Inst night in Mr C. W. Harvey's rooms, Mr L. B. Hart presiding. The chairman reported that the mode! compound steam engine given by Wilton and Co. was to be set up and run in a city show room. It was of wonderful workmanship, and had attracted much attention in the Auck.and Exhibition. It was agreed to dispose of tho gift by art union. The secretary reported that the tramway manager could not approve of tho sale of tickets on tramways, but tho tramway men were undertaking the work themselves. The design of a “ walking badge ” for sale at half a- crown was approved. Mr Staples reported that a strong branch had been formed’ at Lower Biccarton. Tho Sydenham branch wrote protesting against the extension of tho time of closing, and stating that it would disband on Sepember 30. Mr Black said that the action bad been taken because many of the Sydenham workers wished to concentrate on Bed Cross work from October 1. Tho Sumner branch wrote asking whether it was desirable that Heathcole,‘Woolston and Lyttelton should remain coupled with Sumner, as nothing was being dono in those districts., Tho chairman eaid l that a concert bad been arranged at Hcathcotc for September M, but word bad been received from Lyttelton, following bn a Bed Cross meeting, that nothing could be,dono for. the Lady LivcrPSE. Fund within nine weeks. However, negiWatioiis were going forward. Mr W. E. _D. Bishop said that the Bed Cross had got in first, but a meeting or the.Lady Liverpool Fund workers should be called at once. It was agreed to' call a Lyttelton meeting for a night to be fixed. Mr G. Witty, M.P., writing in reference to the amount voted by the .Canterbury Park Trotting Club, stated that it was a direct donation, 1 and not a. prize, and, he desired that it should be credited to the Biccarton district. Tho chairman (Mr Hart) stated,.tlmi,originally Mr "Witty had agreed’ to- the a mount being a prize, but on becoming interested in the Biccarton district had changed his mind. The Navy League, to avoid overlapping, wrote stating that it proposed to make "a street appeal from October 21 to November 14 in aid of the War Fund appeal. It was resolved to reply that, as tho committee's up-, peal would close on October 12. the organic, ation would bo glad to assist the ‘Navy League after that date. The town clerk wrote stating that permission to place collecting chairs and tables in tho city would expire on September 31.
