WOMEN EMPLOYEES.
THEP. AND I. SERVICE. MALE EMPLOYEES PERTURBED. There is some fueling amongst officers, of the Post and Telegraph.Department in the Dominion that efforts aro being .made to introduce women employees to an-undue-extent. The latest edition of “Tho Katipo,” the official organ of th© Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, contains several references to the subject One is from tho journal's Masterton correspondent, who states that very grave fears axise when officers’ prospects are considered, and that i all male officers in some branches have been warned that, as a result of the introduction of women employees, they may bo transferred to other centres. .• Several inquiries in Christchurch today brought a very direct denial that i there was a tendency to introduce too many women, or that male officers here feel any alarm. It is evident, however, that tlie fear does exist, or at least that male ■ employees are perturbed. Tho Christchurch correspondent of “The Katipo,’’ in the issue of August 20, writing of conditions in tho General Post Office hero, said: “ There lias recently been an influx of temporary female assistants. Wo trust that the claims of returned soldiers are not being overlooked.” An opinion is expressed that returned soldiers could be found for some positions that were given the women in the Christchurch postal district. Tho executive of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, which has its headquarters in Wellington, has been .asked by branches to inquire into the position. '
