ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL
TEMPORARYAGGOMMO"DATIONi < BUILDING CONTEMPLATED* Tlie special committee of the Hospital Board set up to consider the establishment of mi orthopedic unit at the hospital reported this morning that the temporary accommodation to be erected consisted of the workshops for basket-making, a wooden building in the area between wards five and six* the full length of the area and' 2ofb wide. This, it was proposed, should he used for the baths, electro-thera-peutic and balneological rooms. Another building in the area between wards four and five, the full length of the area with a width of 25ft iwuld he erected ns a gymnasium. Besides those it would he necessary to put another storey on the building at present used as quarters for the resident’medical officers of the hospital, and towards this the Defence Department had allocated the sum of £SOO. This building would be of a permanent character and the accommodation provided wonli| undoubtedly he necessary to the hoard in a comparatively short time. Attached to this, provision was being made for a common room for the use of the medical _ officers. The accommodation for dining-room and all purpose* at present was a room about 14ft by ?£%. This was wholly inadequate, even Vhr the present staff. The board ■woulff need to find the difference between the total cost of this building and the £SOO allocated by the Defence Department, the amount being about £BOO. The reappropriation of the old residency was to lie put in hand, and the basket-makers’ woi-ksbop would be attached to that building in preference to the site previously chosen. Tho plans had been drawn and forwarded ta > the Defence Department, and the Minister of Hospitals for approval. The report was adopted.
