A DIGNIFIED PROTECT. The following .resolutions-were unanimously adopted .at, a meeting ' of the Licensed Victuallers' Association hold yesterday '■afternoon':-.. '' That this meeting, of the Licensed Victuallers' Association of Canterbury ' desires to express - its surprise and indignation at the action of the Leaders of-the Prohibition Party who, in an endeavour, to secure signatures to a '■■' petition, asking. Parliament to. grant_ a referendum on the Liquor Question are inserting an advertisement in the daily papers depicting . the Licensed Trade- as being hand-in-hand with the Kaiser." " Whatever may be the Public Opinion on the' Liquor Question, ■tlio members'of-the Licensed Vic- _ tuallers' Association are unanimous in their opinion that the advertisement referred to i s undignified, un-British, and wholly unworthy ' of tlio representatives of an intellectual community." "Thousands of those connected with the Licensed Trade are at the Front,, and hundreds, who are conscientiously opposed to Prohibition have lost sons and relatives, who, . out of love and zeal ' for their Country, gave .their lives bravelv fighting for Liberty and Right."'". "Further, the members of tlio ' Licensed Victuallers' Association believe that this is a time when every true British' subject should avoid extremes.and strire to unite in one common endeavour to bring' the War to a successful conclusion.
