ALLIED AIR RAIDERS.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, (Received August 34, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, August. 2d. Correspondents describe the recent air work, particularly a daylight raid on tho Harbourdin aerodrome on August 16. Plying at an average altitude of 200 ft, without interference from enemy pianos, the British spotted two in tho distance and attacked. One crashed down, and the other was driven down. The raiders silenced nests of machine-guns about tho aerodrome, and dropped a hundred bombs, which completely destroyed three largo hangars containing machines, partially wrecked eight machines in the open, set fire ■to tho officers’ and men s quarters, blew up the officers’ messroom, and ignited several buildings, including an ammunition shed. There were many casualties. Having completed the demolition of tlio aerodrome, the machines went off and chased and stopped a train, overturned a staff motor-car into a ditch, and forced another .to run up the bank, and. it is believed, killed all Iho occupants of both machines. Tho whole of the squadron returned.
