Sir Arthur Pinero was employed as a clerk in a public library, and later in a solicitor’s office, before the stage proper attracted him. As a very young man, however, he was fond of'acting and when eighteen years of age he joined an : amateur dramatic club in con--meotion with which he sustained th« role of Hamlet. Riches do not consist in liaving more gold and silver, but in having more in proportion than our neighbours, whereby wo are enabled to secure to ourselves a greater plenty of the conveniences of life than comes within their reach.—Locke. ■
