Captain A. W. Smith, of Hamilton, who recently returned to New Zealand on furlough, is in Christchurch, on a visit to his mother. Captain Smith, who 'was transferred to tho Ilifle Brigade wliile in Franco, will return to camp on September 5. . At the practice of the Musical Society held on Tuesday last mention was ;made of the death of Mr H. Wells. Dr Bradshaw said that though the late Mr Wells was not personally known to him, it was commonly known that he had filled many important positions,’ and had had the cause of music very much at heart. Others present, who had sung in choruses under Mr Wells, spoke of the thoroughness and enthusiasm which characterised all his work, and a resolution of condolence with his relatives was passed, all standing.
