Mr. )V. W. Oollins will deal with “ Christian Pacifists” at tho Caledonian ITall to-morrow evening, commencing at 7.15. Admission is (roe. Tim -Mayor’s appeal for subscriptions towards bis Coal and Blanket Fond is meeting with a steady response, and the latest list announces the, receipt of about £25 from various donors. Mr Boy Lovell-Smitb has received ward from the Wellington Chess Club that A(r F. K. Kelling baa resigned his unfinished game against Ur W. S. King in tho recent chess match by telegraph against tho Canterbury Chess Club. The position was made ready for adjudication, but Mr Kelling, in subsequent analysis, realised that the player had a forced win and the ending will not now be referred to tlio adjudicators. Tho score in tho match at present stands at five-all. A notice in tiio "New Zealand Gazette ” states that the Minister of Customs lias accepted the sum of £IOOO from IV. and B. Fletcher, Ltd,, merchants, of Auckland, in full satisfaction ol penalties incurred by the company for offences against the Customs ns extended by the Regulation of Trade and Commerce Act. The offences, whicii the notice states were admitted, consisted of tho illegal exportion of tallow from New Zealand. The funeral of the late Canon W. S. Pascoo was held this afternoon, the remains of the deceased being laid to rest in the Avonsido churchyard. There was a largo and representative attendance. and the motor-hearse, was covered with floral tributes sent by friends and various church associations. Tlio chief mourners wore Messrs G. T). Paseoe and H. Pascoe (sous) and the pallbearers were Messrs F. Matthews, A. M. M’Grcgor, W. S. Crichton, -I. F. Poulton. H. Baker and K. Bassett (churchwardens and vestrymen of Holy Trinity, Avonsido). The service at tho graveside was conducted by the Rev 0. Fitzgerald. The triennial election of members for the Christchurch Tramway Board will bo held on Thursday next, June 27. between the hours of 9 n.m. and i p.ra. A full list of the candidates for the various sub-districts, together with a list of polling places, will bo found elsewhere in this issue. For the convenience of business men and others working in flic city, it has been arranged to bare a polling booth for all sub-districts in Colville’s old shop., (’athcdral Square (rear of Dalgety and Co.). The Woolston Baud will giro a , Pon . cert in the Theatre Royal to-morrow night, supported by Mrs John Fraser (Onuiaru) and Mr F W. Tenfold (Christchurch), vocalists. The proceeds will bp devoted to the Lady Liverpool Fund for comforts for Dominion troops. The Woolston Band, which is in excep'.ionallv good form at present, will present tho same programme which it played at Wellington recently before several thousand people. The concert will commence at eight o’clock, and admission will be by silver coin.
