There 'will he a meeting of girls in connection with the Harbour Lights Club at the Henrietta Tea Rooms, which have been lent for the occasion, on Wednesday evening, to under.an °Y on ing’s sowing for sailors. Iho intention is to devote one evening a week to tho work, sewing machines being lent for tho purpose, and efforts me now being made to extend the movement. Mis J, R. Duncan, of Harakeke Street, Riccarton, held a: pleasant function on Tuesday evening in honour of her sou s birthday. It took the form ot a gift evening in aid of the fund to supply Christmas comforts for tho sailors, and the .movement will benefit to the extent of £2 10s. Tea was laid in the drawing room, the clecorabeing carried out in red, white and blue. A pleasant time was spent in games, competitions and other amusements. , A , n entertainment arranged by Mr F. 0. Raphael, was given in the soldiers ward at.the Christchurch i-iospital yesterday afternoon. ' There was ,1 large attendance, including Mrs Ccorge Rhodes and many nurses. By permission of the Fuller management, \\imfred La Franco, Maud Courtney mid Mr C” contributed items. Miss La * ranee sang several songs, which were vociferously encored. Mr “ C.” told a number of topical wittv stories m his inimitable style; Maud Courtney sang several songs, and the two artists contributed duets. Songs were also given by Mr and Mrs Farquhar ou ! 1 g . an f!, Misses 1 Marie Pearce and Cicely Audibert, and Mr F. C. Raphael played, a ballad horn solo. The accompanist for the afternoon was Mrs Harry Beck. All tho items were received with much appreeation, recalls being the order of the day At the conclusion, Sergeant M’Vinney in a brief speech, expressed tho grateful thanks of the audience to the perform' crs for the excellent entertainment, and' also to the Puller management, and three hearty cheers were given for the party.
