ACCIDENTS ON WHARVES.
Commission Inquiry. [Pf.r Press, Association.! YVEIHjINGTON, May 23. At- the commission of inquiry into accidents on wharves, 'Mr Nicholls secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board, slated that during the last eighteen months there had been no accidents on the Wellington wharves due to’ faulty gear. : There had been 214 accidents in that period, 81.3 of which had entailed an absence from work of three weeks and under. From 1907 to 1917 there had been no increase in the percentage of accidents to engagements. In 190S the average rate of accident pay was £4 5s 2d; for the past six months it was £3 16s. Durmg the past ten years there had been only form fatal accidents. Captain Dawson, the harbourmaster, said he thought it would he an advantage to all concerned if the work of inspection were carried out by one authority. Harbour regulations should be revised and consolidated.
