A good deaf wf quiet interest whs shown to-day in the rlusi,of the nominations for tho vacancy on tho City Council caused by Air .Hiram Hunter losing Ids scat, consequent upon Ids conviction and sentence on a charge of sedition. At noon to-day, when the nominations closed, Air Tinnier wag still iu prison, although Cabinet has granted the petitioners’ appeal for Ids release. In order to safeguard the representation of Labour among the nominees, .should it bo discovered that Air Hunter is not eligible to hold the scat, the party has nominated a second candidate in the person of Air Henry Frederick Herbert, a former City Councillor, who represented Linwood with Councillors D. G. Sullivan and J. ArCornhs. Ah- Hunter's nomination lias boon accepted by the returning ollicer. Tho nominations are:--CHARLES ALLISON HENRY FREDERICK HERBERT HIRAAI HUNTER. Mr Allison stated to a. “ Star ” reporter that ho is loth to put tho city to tho expense of a contested election Hurt that ho will reserve his final 'decision on tho subject for a feip days.
