At an entertainment held in the Bromley School on Saturday evening, a motion was passed expressing sympathy with Miv; Cheyiio. whose husband, Private G- B. Chcyne. has keen lulled in action. Mrs J. Clarke, Hinds, ha s received advice that hoi - brother, Private George Browne, was wounded in the head about May 12, and lias been admitted to a hospital in France. Private Browne left with the 'luirteenth Reinforcements. , Air and Airs J. Hoskin, Springston South, have received advice that their son, Private Harold Hoskin, has been gassed, and was admitted to hospital in hj ranee between April 30 and May 4. Private Hoskin left New Zealand with the Nineteenth Reinforcements. He enlisted when he. was nineteen, and has s !'cnt two birthdays in France. Before enlisting he was engaged as ranger for the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society and was also a keen member of the local football team and a prominent figure in all local athletic events. Air R, .Stephens, of 70, Harper Sydenham, has received advice that his son. Driver 11. S' (Stan) Stephens, N.Z.F.A., has been admitted to hospital in Franco suffering from disordered action of the heart. Ho left with the Ninth Reinforcements. no was wounded at Armenticres in July, 1916, and after being seven months in England returned to France. Private 0. Kennedy, of Alorven, has returned from England, where he lias been in a hospital tor some months. Private Kennedy and his nephew, Private James Tobin, formerly of Alorven. but now of Hawke’s Bay, went away with the first squadron to Gallipoli. Private Kennedy, who was in the employ of Mr Alf. Judge, AYaibarunga, is a brother of Airs AV. Tobin, Glenavy. On Friday Private Heb. Brown, of Alorven, arrived home after a year’s absence from the Dominion- Private Brown is minus three toes, besides other injuries, his lameness being of a permanent nature- Private Brown is a son of Air Alexander Brown, sen., a well-known Alorven farmer, and brother of Air Alexander Brown, jun., the wellknown ploughman.
