It is announced that the Triangle campaign by the Y’.ALG.A. ha.s resulted iu a total for the city of about <020,000. It is expected that the'total from the Canterbury military district will lie about, £‘50,000.
Air J. Ewen Alaclarcn, who took bis pilot's ticket at Sockbum to-day, is a sou of Air J. Alaclarcn, of Ross and Glendining's staff, and is a Christchurch boy. Ho ha.s always excelled in sport. Me played wing for St Bede's Soccer team, and when in Auckland at college he earned the reputation of being the speediest Rugby three-quarter for secondary schools. Ho also established a record lor 100 yds championship for secondary schools, doing it in 10 2-5 sec. Air Alaclarcn was formerly on the commercial staff of the ‘‘Lyttelton Times” Company, Driver Leslie Ormandy, on final leave, was entertained at a farewell social by his friends in the l.inwood Hall. Rolleston Street. The guest was the recipient of many useful gills, including a. money belt, safely razor, cheque, set of pines, fountain pen and diary. Driver Ormandy is the second son ol Mr H. Ormandy, oreesder Street, l.inwood, to leave lor active service. A third son goes into camp shortly.

Dominion Hotel. The tusk of detecting gas leaks hi Christchurch is often difficult, owing tn the movement of the gas in the shingle. In ‘Wellington some time ago a leak of gas was detected at W'adestown, where there are no gas mains, and it was found that, the break had occurred in a service pipe near the wharves, and the gas, entering a sewer, had come out two miles and a half away.
