FLOOD AT OPOTIKI.

TOWNSHIP UNDER WATER.

[Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 10. Telegrams received by the Post Office from Whakatauo state':—“There is an extraordinary heavy flood at Opotiki, there being six feet of water in the highest parts of the business area. No loss of life is reported so far. The flood was caused by heavy rainfall and the flooded river. All traffic is suspended. The water is over the counters in shops, a.ud has reached the around floor of the Post Office. The roads are blocked, traffic is suspended, and telegraphic communication is interrupted. Whakatane can get Opotiki over a faulty telephone circuit.”
