The, total Government expense during the year was 12.007.978,679 dollars. The army was increased from 952) officers and 202.510 men. to '123,801 officers and 1,528.942 men. while the navy was increased from 4792 officers and 77,916 men to 21,000 officers and 330,000 men. There are four times as many vessels in the naval service now as there were a year ago. Over twenty large companies are manufacturing aeroplanes. The Kmergency Fleet. Corporation has requisitioned 425 steel vessels and has contracted for 720, of a total deadweight, tonnage of 8,164,508, It has also contracted for 480 wooden vessels, of 1.715.000 tons, which will he repaired and put into operation, while vessels aggregating 788,000 tons have been seized from Germany and Austria.
