FOOTBALL.

Light-Weight Shield. A very pleasant ceremony was held at the Marist Bros. School on Wednesday afternoon when the Rugby Union’s light-weight shield was presented to (ho Marist’ team, who are the first winners. Tn the absence of the president of the union (Mr P. T. Evans), the shield was handed to tho cap-tain-of the winning team by the secretary (Mr C. W. llervoy). The presentation was suitably acknowledged by Brother Pallndius. Mr Hervey, in the course of his speech, promised to give a trophy to the, most improved player in each of the Marist Bros, tepms, and he was thanked hy Brother Palladiua for his offer.

Hornby Rugby League.

A meeting of the Hornby Rugby League Football Club was held in the Hrnids’ Hall, Hornby, on Wednesday evening. Mr L. J. Mnllaney presided over a. large attendance of members. Officers were appointed as follows— Patron, Mr ,T, Leslie; president, Mr H. F. Nieol; vice-presidents, Messrs ,T. Hooper, W. M'Forlane, W. H. Menhirs, ,T. Burt, ,L Bryce, M. Evans, J. Wallace, H. MnD Innev; deputy club eaptain, Mr A. Spicer; secretary. Mr P. Winter; treasurer. 'Mir W. Cole; delegates tn Centre, Af.os.ars F. Winter, A. Bench and L. J. Mulianey; selectors, Messrs J. Kenworihy, A. (Spicer and F,’ AViuter. Over twenty new members were alroted. It waa decided to enter a. senior, pmjor end a. president's,team in the competitinns The opening day was fixed for Saßibdav April 13. The matter of the adoption of nll suranco scheme for members was fully considered, and was favourably received? hv members.
