FIGHTING FOR A COMMON CAUSE. SIR WILLIAM ROBERTSON. 11 OFFER BY THE BRITISH PREMIER. AMERICAN SHIPYARD STRIKES. YARDS TAKEN OVER BY GOVERNMENT. President Wilson, replying to a message from King George, said: I believe tbe righteous cause we are prosecuting will serve to bind closer tbe peoples of tbe United States and Great Britain and will hasten the establishment of a lasting peace.” The “Daily Telegraph” says that the Prime Minister has offered Sir William Robertson the position of British representative at the Versailles Council, with the powers of generalissimo. So far he has not accepted the post, but if he does so it is expected that Sir Henry Wilson will become Chief of the General Staff. The “Daily Express” says that Mr Asquith and Lord Lansdowne have been in consultation during the last few days. The chairman of the American Shipping Board is appealing to the shipyard strikers to resume work so as to supply food and. munitions to the French.
