RICCARTON WHISPERS.

[From Our Correspondent.] UPPER RICCARTON SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Upper Riccarton School was hold on Monday evening, Mr Bueknell presiding. The head master’s report stated that the school had reopened with a good attendance. Twenty new pupils were admitted, while thirty names were withdrawn from the roll, making the present roll number 232, Two pupil teachers had left at the end of the year to enter the Normal Training College, and Miss Roscoe had been appointed to tako the place of one, but the other vacancy had not yet been filled. The school garden had been placed by the Chief Instructor in Agriculture in Grade 1 among the schools of Canterbury.

The Visiting Committee reported that the lenoe on School Road needed trimming,' and the path at the main entrance required weeding. It was decided to call the caretaker’s attention to the matter. Messrs Purvis and Lake were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month. IMPROVEMENTS. The Saleyards Company is to be congi ntnlated on the groat improvements it is making in Alliance Street, by widening the street and cutting away the trees at the corner leading into Alan dev die Street.
