TRAMWAY BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Tramway Board met yesterday; present—Mr C. M. Gray (chairman), the Hon J. Barr and Messrs J. A. Flesher. H. Pearce, G. T. Booth, T. H. Davey, S. A. Staples, A. S. Taylor and D. Sykes. The Works and Traffic Committee s report stated that the committee proposed to take steps under the Public Works Act to acquire a small piece of land at the corner of Bowhill Road and Park Road in order that a somewhat dangerous corner could be removed. The New Brighton Borough Council was rendering assistance. J'ho report was adopted. Miss Partridgo wrote thanking the board for the improvements to the Fendalton service, and the Navy League wrote thanking the board for the assistance recently given.

The Woolston Borough Council wrote again regarding the changes in the district timetable. The letter was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee.

Mr F. Sisson, on behalf of tho Papnnui Tramway Extension Committee, wrote asking for relief from "a v;-.ry unjust rate," and urging that, whilst the main traffic areas showed a profit, it was not fair for outside areas to pay special rates. The letter was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee, which is at present considering the Avholc question in connection with the rating of special areas. In accordance with notice of motion, Mr Sykes moved that the following resolution moved by Mr Flesher at tho board meeting on October 15 i>e rescinded: "That in the opinion of the board it would be. improper to i.ake any steps in the matter of merging t.ie special rating areas into the :na:n area, until the question is submitted to tho vote of the ratepayers of the main area." Mr Staples seconded the motion, which was supported by tho Hon J. Barr and Mr Flesher. The motion was carried by five votes to four. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £5213 18s Bd.
