THE JUDICIARY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln Saturday's issue you publish a portrait, of the Attorney-General, who,_rt, is said, is to bo elevated to the Supreme Court Bench. In peace times this appointment would not. be possible; it is another of the sins in the long record of maladministration by the National Government. Mr Herdman does not possess the legal qualifications that entitle, a cand'date to that, high office. As a lawyer he can be classed with Police Court practitioners. It, is for political services rendered to a political party that he is being rewarded. One of the qualities required in a judge is strict- impartiality and nonpartisnnship. .Mr Herdman is a reactionary Conservative _ and a bitter enemy of Labour. His appointment to the Supreme Court, is an insult to organised Labour and an outrage upon decency.— • I am, etc., RADICAL.
