Wrestler pulled up showing slight signs of lameness after a gallop last Tuesday, and he has been on the easy list since then. He appears to be nearly right again, and he will probably resume work this week. If there is no recurrence of the trouble, he may be included in the team to represent Sir George Clifford at the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting.

Masterstroke and a. three-year-old by Antagonist—Bountiful are expected to join F. D- Jones's team shortly, and will be got ready to carry Mr H. A. Knight's colours later in the season.

The two-year-old filly Afterglow (Demosthenes—Sunglow) and the colts Molyneux (Danube—Perle d'Or) and "Wharfce (Danube—Miss Mischief) aro among the team which R-. J- Mason has out each morning. The two Danube colts have only recently been broken in.

Mr H. A. Knight has a couple of promising colt foals, both by Boniform. at his stud at Racecourse Hill. One of them is from Madrid, by Vasco — Flame, and the other from Big Blast, by Quarryman-—Brave Heart.

Liskeard, for whom Mr A. Boyle paid 40 guineas at the sale of the late Hon J. D. Ormond's horses last week, is a six-year-old gelding by Birkenhead— Enn'a, by The Officer—Enid. _ He lias done no racing, but he is a big fellow, who may t'urn out useful over obstacles provided he stands training.

Belair attracted considerable attention at the sale of the late Hon J. D. Ormond's horses last week, and it was. only after some keen competition that she was knocked down to the Riccarton trainer. J. M'Combe, for 520 guineas. She is a shapely three-year-old filly by Hymettus—Enyo, by Birkenhead—Eon, by Medallion—Enid, by Apremont— Idalia, and in addition to good looks and a winning pedigree, she has the reputation of being a speedy galloper, though she has not been seriously tried in public, as she started only once last season.

According to northern reports, Client, Johnny Walker, Multiply and Teka are the popular fancies for the Auckland Cup.

Four box ps hare been secured at Filer site to accommodate the- horses who will represent Sir George. Clifford at the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting. Though nothing definite, has been decided on, the team may consist of Adjutant, Gamecock and Long; Range, with Wrestler or Sir Fanciful as the fourtih member of the party.

The Wanganui owner, Mr A. Hall, was so disgusted with the recent showings of Moulu that he sold him for 50gs. The Boniform gelding has grown unreliable, and does not race up to his track form.

W. Bush, who was recently crosscountry horseman for the late Hon J. D. Ormond, has accepted a retaining fee from Mr Gordon Fulton, owner of Art. Banian and others, for whom he will ride over hurdles and on the flat.

An interesting contest is taking place at present between H- Gray and A. Reed for first place in the winning jockeys' list'. Gray was twice successful at Takapuna on Saturday; and the two riders are now equal with seventeen wins.

Owen M'Arten. the well-known Hawera. horseman who is now in camp at Featherston, has obtained leave from tlie authorities, and will be riding at the Taranaki and Stratford meetings. He was recently relicensed by the Taranaki District Committee.

F. Davis will probably give his Demosthenes—Gossip colt Kipling and one of his Kilbroney youngsters a run in the Maiden Plate, six furlongs, at Woodville, next week.

At the Melbourne sales this month the Waikanae-hred Bourlang, a good winner in Australia, was sold for 200 guineas. The purchaser was Mr S. DBrunton, owner" of Chrome, one of the most consistent performers at the recent spring meetings in Victoria. Bourlang, is hv Bezonian—Nerve, so that he is a half-brother to the Derby winner. Balboa, and a brother to Lightning, who credited her owner with a first and a second at Takapuna on Saturday.

Since racing at Riccarton this month, Sunny Climes injured one of her hocks, and is at present spelling. _ She may have to be. thrown out of training. The daughter of Field Battery imd Perolina has been a consistent but unlucky placegetter, and the Highden stable, will be unlucky if her services are lost before she gets on the winning list.

It has been decided to start Finmark in the Feilding Stakes, in which he will be ridden by th e Wairarapa lightweight, R. S. Begby, who won the Pendalton Handicap this month on Margerine.

Mr W. R. Kemball had Nanna at Ashhurst last week, but she was not started, to the bad weather. Nanna, ami Snub will both be racing at Feilding this week, as with Multaino, who finished third, in her engagement at Ashhurst.

The Wellington Racing Club has donated £SO to the funds of the Woodlands Hunt Club, which struck bad weather for its annual race meeting.

Probation and Rose Pink, winners at Ashhurst on Wednesday, were successful at the same meeting a year ago. Botanist, who was senti out favourite for the Raumai Welter and. failed badly, was best backed for that event twelve months ago, when he won.

F. Higgotit took a team of nix horses to the Ashhurst meeting. Two of them, Skedaddle and Silveretta, -were 'geldings by Campfire, both making their first appearance. Silveretta. who wa*

destroyed after putting his stifle out, was one ot the progeny of Marionetta (sister to Motoa), and was a half' brother to Birkenetta, a useful performer in hack company last season.

It is understood that Client is to fulfil his Auckland Cup engagement. So far nothing has been decided about the Railway Handicap candidate Acre going norih, and those who fancy the Li nacre colt had better wait until the acceptances are declared.

Rinaldo, a good racehorse by Charlemagne ll.—Demeta, has taken up stud duty in Australia.

Bonheur. the clam of Client, has been mated this season with the imported horse Panmure. She has a fi.no colt foal by Demosthenes.

H. Gray has been engaged to ride, Toa .Tere in the Auckland Cup. If he does not start. Gray will have the mount on Johnny Walker, whose stable companion, Seadown, may be ridden by A. Reed.

Though the imported horse, Polydamon, was not one of the popular fancies on the course, he had many admirers in other parts of the. Dominion for the Cheltenham Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday. He is credited with being ii, smart galloper, and he gav<; some, evidence in that direction when rte finished fourth in. the Shorts Handicap at the Auckland R.aeing Club's meeting a. fortnight ago. His performance on that occasion made in impression on the handicapper. who gave the English horse a substantial rise in the weights. Probablv he will shape better later in th*» season, when he has become properly acclimatised.

The win scored by Lord Kenilworth fa the Melrose Handicap at Takamrri on Saturday was the first credited to thisicolt, who is an Australian-bred three-year-old by Kenil worth (sir e of the Derby winner. Wolaroi) from Yandangarang, by Ayr Laddie—Yashmak, by Pilgrims Progress from Bright -L.ves, an imported mare by Arbitrator

The success of Shining Light in th-i Cambria Handicap at, Takapuna on Saturday was a . fitting reward for soma consistent racing earlier in the month", when he was second to Kilheeenn i:i the Nursery Handicap at Avondale. and third to Informal and Hineamaru m the Auckland Racing Club's Welcome Stakes. .Shining Licht has Hdently improved a bit, asV. was conceding 61b to Kilheggan on Saturday, agamst only 41b when he was beaten at Avondale. Shining Light is hi Marble Arch from Monella, bv Monoform from Amorelle, by Phcebus Apollo Irom Lady Gertrude, tho Cadocan—Vi mare, who founded such a. >n< line ot winners at the late Sir George Al Lean s stud. °

Sir Ralph, who finished third in the St Andrews Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday was in a similar place oarh this month mthe Plumpton Handican at Avondale, Saturday's winner, U, H le i\ea, being also successful on that occasion. A few days earlier Sir Ralph was second to Chortle in the Avondale Cup while he followed up those two e.'tcrts by dead-heating; with Chort'o for third place in the Auckland Karmg Club's City Handicap, the pair being beaten by Mullingar and To a Tore, m a desperate finish, the placing of th.« .-judge failing to find general favour. Sir Ralph, who is a four-year-old. i~ the best stayer sired by Rokeby, but it is probable he gets a lot of stamina from his dam, Rose Red. This marc, who was retired to the stud a s a three-year-old, after taking part in tww raco, the previous season, is a sister to Ad Red, a great stayer, as well as to Rose Madder, Mungista and Ukraine, who hav 0 gained stud distinction as the respective dams of Sea Pink. Indigo and Sasanof, three good performers over long journeys.

Uncle Ned, winner of the St. Andrew's Handicap at the Takapuna meeting on Saturday, is one of the most improved horses now racing round Auckland. Last season, as a three-year-old, ho started ten tames, winning throe, of his engagements. In all of them, however, the fieds he beat were deeid< edly moderate. He only made one appearance in good compa.ny, that being at the Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting in June, when he ran second to Red Ribbon in the Cornwall Handicap, over a mile and a quarter. Early this month, at the Avonda;l'o meeting, lie won the Plumpton Handicap, in which ho had a light weight, hut, there was much more, merit in his performance or> Saturday, when he was receiving only 71b from Colonel Soult. Ho is a four-year-old gelding by Marble Arch, but his dam, Lady Gladys, docs not find a place in tihe Stud Book.
