LYTTELTON NOTES.

[From Ovr CoRREst 1 oxnE>:T. J CORSAIR- BAY. W liilo it is highly desirable that children should 1 jo given every opportunity to indulge in healthy recreations on the beach at Corsair, it is to lie regretted that the parents of the children who frequent the beach do not eaution them against the practice of smashing bottles either 'in the water or on the, beach. Needless to say this toolish act is a source of real danger both to children paddling and to bathers. The chief offenders are doubtless children, but it i,s not an unusual tiling to see youths and even men, who certainly should know better, throwing rtones at bottles in the water. There is no reason why the offenders, in the case of adults, should not he prosecuted. It may be mentioned that at a sitting of the local court recently a man was fined £o for throwing a broken tumbler into the gutter at Norwich Quay. SECON.D DIVISION LEAGUE. A meeting of the executive of the Lyttelton branch of the Second Division League met on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance, and it was decided to hold meetings of the executive monthly in-order to- keep members together until the next session opens, with a, view of endeavouring to obtain from Government the granting of the full demands a.sked by the league. It was also decided to help any member of the league who may be called up in the meantime. PRESENTATIONS. A social was held last evening (Friday) in the Allendale Schoolroom to bid an revoir to Private W. Garlick and Private li. S. Hall, who have volunteered for active service and who are at present on final leave. The Rev H. A concert party from Lyttelton added much enjoyment to the evening. Dancing ivas indulged in until the small hours of the morning. GIFT AFTERNOON. A very successful gift afternoon was hel<£ on Tuesday in the Holy Trinity Schoolroom by the local branch of the Women's National Reserve. There was a large attendance of ladies each of whom brought a present suitable for the post office stall, of which this body of workers will' be in charge at the Domain Fete to be held nexlt month, whilst others donated cash. Over 100 parcels of tobacco, cigarettes, cigars and pipes were received, besides £7 in cash. During the afternoon musical items were contributed by Mrs Tait and Mrs Pidgeon. A playlet entitled " A Journey's End," written by Mrs Gore Newell, in which the authoress and Miss M. Hutchinson took tfm leading parts, was much appreciated. RED GROSS WORK.
