The first, meeting of the newly elected board of the iS'c.w Zealand Trotting AssociaU Oll , was '"his afternoon: present—Messrs 1. Selig (in the chair), 11. W. Kitchingham, J;; ' J. 1L Williams, C. F. Mark, « ■ H. Denton, R. AV. Short, J. 11. Samson and AV. J. Hopkins. Mr Nieoll moved that Mr Selig should be re-elected president for the ensuing year. In (loin" so, he said, the fact that he had occulted the position for eighteen years was sufticient, recommendation of his fitness for the position. Mr Selig had told them that he intended to retire at the end of this year, but there would be other opportunities for referring to that. Mr Kitchingham, in seconding the motion, said a great many years had elapsed «incc Mr Schg had first represented the Grcymouth trotting Club 011 the Trotting Conference, a position he held for a considerable time. He considered that much of the good standing of the sport was due to the work he had done. Mr Mark endorsed .the remarks of the prespeakers, and the motion was carried. Mr Selig, in thanking the members, said he iiad definitely decided to retire from the association at the end of this ywir. He had had a. long term as a member, having been associated with the government of the sport, including three year, on the old South Island Association, for a period of twenty-one years. Other officers were elected as follow:—Yiccpresidcnt, Mr 11. F. Xicoll; trenshircr, Mr AA*. •J. Hopkins: licensing committee, Messrs AV. J. Hopkins and. W. 11. Denton: colours committee, Messrs H. J<\ Nicoll and J. H. Williams: appeal committee, Messrs P. Selig, rt. AV. Kitchingham and J. H. Williams; foreign horse committee, Messrs W. H. Denton and M. Samson: examiner in Christchurch of foreign horses, Mr AV. H. Denton; alitor. Mr C. J. Marshall. Ihe chairman extended a welcome to tho new member, Mr J. M, Samson, who briefly acknowledged the welcome. The committee set up to consider the question of dealing with riders and jvvho started ill races before their bells recommended that if a rider or driver was called off once during a racing season he should receive tt caution ; and if he was called off. more, than once during a season the. Licensing Committee should consider the. case, and make a recommendation to the first meeting of the board as to whether the rider or driver should rtain bis license 01* otherwise. The of tbo stewards of the Metropolitan Trotting Club in continuing E. Logan tor his driving of Stanley's Child in the August Handicap was endorsed. Mi; J. S. Beaton wrote, asking whether AV. Black, being the holder of an amateur license, was entitled to mako a charge for the feeding a,nd working of a horse. It. _ was decidkl to draw his attention to a previous reply, that a.<; amateur could not charge for training. Several programmes, as approved by the executive, were pajjsed. The programme" ..f the Westport Trotting Club was passed on condition that it should include only two local events, in place, of tliree, as proposed. It was decided that the AVinton Jockey v.lull should be informed that optional races could not be allowed.

The Licensing Committee recommended tho granting of a number of licenses, and hat the application of AV. IT. Mortimer should bo refused. It also recommended that £lB should be paid to T. Ar.net.t and £8 to J. Shaw, m respect to accidents. The report was adopted. Mr Kitchingham said it had been discovered that the stallion, Copa de Oro, had not been registered 011 bis arriva' from America. Tlio horse had died recently, but a s some of his stock might be racing later on, it was advisable that he should be included in the Stud Book. It was decided that in 4 he event of an application being made by the owner, the compiler of the Stud Book should be. .instructed to include the horse's l.amo. Tt was decided that the Licensing Committee, in conjunction with the chairman, should submit to tho IJules Revision Committee le-con-.mentlr.iions with regard to amateur license?.
