CANTERBUBY ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL BEPORT The fortieth annual Teport of tho Canterbury Cricket Association states The continuation of the war further restrict**! cricket activities list* fftß.eon, but m view of the depletion of cricketers it is a matter for congratulation that the clubs were ablfi.to carry 011, and ho enable the grounds to be occupied. In pursuance cf the rule laid down, no big matches were played, but the Grade competitions were carried out, and many of' the senior matches wero far from uninteresting. The admission of Christ's Collage and Boys' High Scboul were largely responsible for this, and the secondary schoolboys moro than justified their right to participate in first grade cricket. Lin wood annexed the championship, but the play showed that at least two other teams were almost, if not ajuit-e, a.s etrofi?, •and the fact that the result of the championship was in doubt until the last round is evidence of the interesting nature of the contest. This is very satisfactory also from tho fact that the abolition of the semi-final and final round might, in the case of a one-sided competition, have taken ail interest out. of the concluding rounds. In view of the diminished revenue of Lancaster Park, the committer cordially approved of the proposal of the, Board of Control to take a, crop of potatoes off the ground this yea.r. The ground will, therefore, not ba -available for cricket during the coming l season, but. the committeo is confident that sufficient wickets will be obtainable on tho other grounds to meet requirements. The finances of the association are in a, satisfactory state, for, although the association remitted the fees payable* by clubs, there is still a halanco to credit of £2715s 3d. Tho committeo is unanimously of opinion that the Grade competition should be carried on during the coming season as usual. A 'Vary casual study of the situation wilL show that this will be absolutely necessary if the clubs are to be kept together and the grounds maintained ae cricket grounds.
