. * Dr Carrie arrived from the north today. ;..: Major Wain arrived from Wellington this morning. Bishop Neville was a. passenger by the Maori this morning. The Mayor will return to Christchurch from Wellington to-morrow morning. Mr J. A. Frostick, National Efficiency Commissioner for Canterbury, will return to Christehureh from Wellington to-morrow. The Hon J. Barr, L.M.C., Mr H. G. ELI, M.P., Mr W. J. Dickie, M.P., i>nd 3lr J. Anstey, M.P., were passengers by the ferry steamer this morning. Mrs S. E. Burnard has received a cablo message stating that her son, Second-Lieutenant A. T. E. Burnard, was Wounded on August 7. Lic'utenant Burnard is twenty-two years of age, and left with the Seventeenth Reinforcements. At the time of enlisting he was employed by Messrs Turnbull and Jon^s. Mrs E. M'Donald, late of St Albans, has received advice that two of her sons, Sergeant Arch. A. M'Donald and Sergeant Alec L. M'Donald, have been wounded in action in Flanders. Sergeant Arch.. M'Dcnald (wounded on August 1) left New Zealand w.th the Fifteenth N.Z.F.A. Reinforcements, and i>ripr to going to France underwent a course of. instruction ....at...the. Hoya.l Artillery School at Woolwich. At the outbreak of war Sergeant M'Donald was in the employ of Messrs Wright, Stephenson -and- Co. Sergeant. Alec M'Donald (wounded on August 2) sailed from New Zealand with the Twentytecond N.Z.F.A. Reinforcements. Previous to enlisting he had been on the commercial .staff,, of Messrs H. Matson and Co. of this city. Mr H. M. Smeaton, Y.M.C.A ; commissioner from England and France, arrived in Christehureh tc-day. He will bo ..' the guest at a business men's tea to bo held in the Y.M.C.A. this evening and subsequently will speak at the patriotic concert tn the Opera House. Mr Smeetcn is the principal of the well-known Auckland firm of Smeaton's, Ltd., and at his own expense went to England and France as Y.M.C.A. commissioner to look after the interests of New Zealand soldiers. He has consented, to give a fihorfc time to tour the South Island for the purpose of telling the people at first hand what the Y.M.C.A. is doing for our boys at Home and at the front. Mr Smeaton will give an address in the Durham Street Methodist Church at io-morroty morning's service, and will epeak at, a public meeting .in 'tho Y.M.C.A. in the afternoon at 4.15 p.m.
