SINKING OF A LIGHTER

I The lighter Dorset, owned by the ||New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ifßprang a leak last evening when re§|urning to port, and drifted off KaiMTvi, where she foundered in seven fathi f-ms. Tito crew were rescued, by the I lighter Thistle. J The lighter Dorset was outward Ibound with a full load of 450 quarof beef at practically dead low •water, and when crossing the'entrance struck the bar. This knocked her propellor off. causing a leak. Fine seamanship was shown bv Captain Connor, of t'be scow Thistle, resI cuing the passengers and crew. The signals of distress were not ob>erved at tho pilot station or by a ■ *t earn or which was passing.
