Tho yp.llow bees drone low in drowsy is' ain t Abovn the wheat fields where the warm winds sweep To soothe the nodding gram with mellow sleep; , And from the distance comes an echo faint Of women chanting to some wayside sa.mt, Near the c\n>rZ\\, upon whoso rod tiled A quaint old sun dial marks tho passing hours Where drooping aspen bougb.3 long shadows paint.
Here, springing lightly from the dowy earth, A myriad roses fragrant incense fling Along tho hedgerows; here tho thrushes brins Their thrilling -rhapsody of woodland mirth; Ah, who would dream tho morrow must disclose Only a fallen thrush, a trampled rose! —Charlotte Becker.
