BATTLE OP THE PLATEAUX. LOST GROUND REGAINED. iuetralian and N.Z. Cable Association and Beuter. PARLS, July 24. 'A French communique says: —This norning we vigorously counter-attacked ihe enemy, who since the hard righting on July 22 had occupied our first line trencheis on the Casemates and California plateaux. The. attack was carried out with extraordinary dash and tave brilliant results. Despite the esperate defence our sokliers recaptured the whole of the lost ground on the California plateau, except a email work, completely in the north-west salient which both sides ' have abandoned., Wo threw the enemy ! on the Casemates plateau from all the elements held, and" even advanced our line at several points. German counterattacks launched on the reconquered trenches were wholly unsuccessful. The artillery duel is very active in Champagne and on the left bank of tha Meuse. ENEMY REPORTS. Auatialian and V.%. Cable Association and Eeuter. LONDON?. July 24. A wireless Oerman official message The French reattacked unsuccessfully <m the Chemirt ties Dames. Wo have repulsed twenty-one French attacks in the past few days. Wo penetrated Courleres wood and inflicted heavy Josses on the enemy.
