A FAMOUS BATTLE.
THE GREAT AXCRE CONTEST. The first presentation of the magnificent British war film. " The, Battle of the Ancre." will take place at His Majesty s Theatre on Saturday afternoon. The film is the firr-t which has been made to standing military- orders. A ever before probably in the history of tne British Army, have the considered the educational aspect, of the kinema film. So impressed, however, were the commanding officers who were present with the members of the Ministry, at the private view <,f the "Battle of the Ancre," with its educational value in instructing men in certain field operations illustrated therein, that every soldier in the Irentham and Foatherston camps was ordered to parade to see these films,' which the V.M.C.A. has arranged with the Annister of Internal Affairs to exhibit ut its own expense to th?. men. In the filjm ihe gun drill of thje men arid the rapidity with which they are seen firing the huge howitzers' and Kims, is a marvel to anyone witnessing it for the first time. The actual scenes m trench and dug-out are also clearly dcpicited. Among the most interesting and valuable, matter the film contains are pictures of the mysterious tanks moving irresistibly into action. The films were secured bv the operators in the employ of the Allied war staffs, and are to lb relied on as absolutely genuine in all respects. Two at least of those daring photographers lost their lives in carrying out their perilous work. If aiiy inducement apart from the merit of the pictures were required to draw large crowds it lies in the fact'that alii the proceeds will go through one Or other of the well recognised patriotic organisations to alleviate- the lot off' our soldiers at hom 0 and abroad.
