HOTEL HOURS.
AX AUCKLAND RESOLUTION. [Tm Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 0. A crowded meeting at the Town Hall to-night, by a huge majority, carried the following resolution: —"That this mooting of the citizens of Auckland is of opinion that in order to ensure an early and successful issue to the war it has become a national necessity to secure the maximum of fficiency in military, commercial, industrial and social affairs, and also to reduce unnecessary expenditure to a minimum, and being convinced that the restrictions of the hours for the sale of intoxicating liquors would assist in these directions urgently requests the Government to secure at the earliest opportunity the necessary legislative authority to reduce the time during which alcohol may be sold to between [flight o'clock a.m. and six o'clock p.m." A deputation was'set up to interview Cabinet at Wellington in furtherance Wfthe matter. BILL TO BE INTRODUCED. " ■ [?Ejt Press Association.] ;' PUKEKOHE, July 9. "' Air J. E. Taylor, a member of a deputation which waited upon Mr Massey ■ to-night in regard to six o'clock closing, asked that he should, as member ,ior Franklin, state his attitude on the subject. Mr Massey replied that he was not 'only member for Franklin but also was Prime Minister, and he could liot commit Cabinet. It would be wrong and unconstitutional to do so. Ho stated that a Bill dealing with the question of hotel hours would be introduced at an early stage of the session.
