Never previously in local theatrical history have playgoers of Christchurch had an opportunity of welcoming., the initial 'Australasian represeu•tatibn of a J. 0\ Williamson, Ltd., production, but this compliment is to ,be paid them at the Theatre Royal on Monday'night, when those popular .artists, Robert Greig, Beatrice Hollojvay and the "Seven i\evs to Ba Id pate ' i' (Company will stage the successful fareijcal play "Baby Mine." The story is around a young married woman,, her husband, the husband's friend find his wife and three babies. The jyoung wife detests babies and her hns'fcand adores them. The wife lunches 'v. ith her husband's friend, but wlh'ii taxed with ihe fact denies it. The htisIjand "lea.ves her, ami to attract him back she persuades Jimmy (Robert Greig) to borrow a baby and to send frer husband a telegram to the effect that, he is a father. Tlio telegram arrives earlier than the conspirators »n----ticipate, and the husband readies home before the baby has been procured. However, Jimmy steals a baby from an Italian woman, who quickly gets on his track and creates a .scene just n.s the father' is nursing what lie thinks is his own offspring. Another baby hn* to. be .procured. This time Jimmy borrows one,of twin babies and reaches liifi destination before the first, babv has been returned to its owner. The father claims the new baby as his own -And is delighted at. the thought that In. ift the father of twins. Eventually a third baby, the other twin, arrives < ; iw j the scene, and to account for it .limriir informs the husband that his wife had Jtripbit.* Meanwhile the mothers of the babies take active interest in the per- ! forma nee, and many humorous complications arise., and the fun is said to bo fast and furious. The cast of "Baby ! :Mine" includes Messrs J. B. Athoij iwood.
