\ COOK'S MISTAKE.
It. was in 0110 of the large cities of Australia- A lady engaged a cook who had just arrived from a country town. She brought with her good recommendations, and was supposed to be a real good kitchen servant. Her mistress ordered eels for dinner, and next morning went as usual to give her instructions for that meal. "We aro to have fish for dinner, Jane. I suppose you know how to cook it?" " Oh, yes, certainly, ma'am," she replied. A short time after tho fishmonger's boy arrived with tho pan eel, <md on Jano opening it, she gave some horrible screams. Her mistress rushed into the kitchen. " Whatever is tho .matter, JaiieP" she-said., / . . " Oh, ma'am, I thought you said yoti ordered fish for dinner?" replied Jane. " Well, 60 I did," said her mistress. " Well', ma'am, the fishmonger has sent snakea." .
