GISBORNE COLLISION.
WORK ON THE ARAHURA, [PsiS PrES.S ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, March 5. Pumping operations on the steamer Arahura were suspended at 4.30 yesterday on account of the high list thafe developed aa the ship regained buoyancy. It was decided to wait for ijow' tide for the ship to regain an even keel arid tako measures to prevent a i'urther list. The vessel was again on an even keel this morning, and pumping was resumed by the TerawhitL Chains have been attached to the Terawhiti and Tuatoa to help to keep the Arahura in an 'upright position. A second diver has been sent from the shore to accelerate patching work on the vessel's side. lb is hoped to make an attempt a* refloating on the afternoon tide. On the Arahura, up to noon excellent progress had been made with pumping, ana the water was reduced to within four or five feet of the engine-room plates. A powerful stationary pump is being installed to provide the vessel with independent means of coping with ; tho water when she is rofloated. Unfortunately the weather changed about midday, an easterly wind interfering with the moorings of the tugboats and stopping diving operations.
