New Zealand j forces curtailed the fixtures as played j the previous season, and the coaipea- ! tions were confuted to three grades, I Junior, third and iourth division. Do- > spite the suspension of the first division j .series, the attracied many new I players, chiefly under eighteen years of ! aye, and tho competitions were keenly | contested. The loss of man;-, of rhe j best exponents of the code from local ! playing holds left the control of the ; sport to the younger nuenho'-s oi iliej clubs. They ably fulfilled the places j allotted, and their abdiues shnuid en- j sure furtbei- progress being made when ' normal conditions again prevail for j winter pastimes. The local players who j have enli.HUul have, established a worthy j record for the code, and to those, mem- • bers who have paid tho supreme saeri- i lice at. the front, their relatives have the sympathy of all supporters or the game.
