THE NEW WORKS. (PKB PRESS Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, October 13. At tho statutory meeting of tho Iron Ore Smelting Company, tho chairman announced that the erection of the works had been commenced. Machinery had been order&d and it was expected that the first furnace, with a capacity of seventy tons weekly, would bo running at the opd oi February. The required capital had been secured • and the share list had closed almost at once. The following directors wsre elected: Messrs Payne (chairman), Fraser j (Auckland), Rutherford (Calves-den), j Lamrensou (Ghristchurch), J. A. Heskett, W. H. Moyes, W. J. Pcnn s E. > J. Deare, and Jenkins. i
