On receipt; of the New Zealand Government's cable stating that repairs to the Aurora would occupy at least sixty days, owing to the labour uncertainty, the British Government decided, owing to an urgent cable from Sir Ernest Shackleton, to dispatch a vessel from England, though the journey from Plymouth to Elephant Island is twice tho di6tanco of 1 that from Wellington.
The Hudson's Bay Company, owners of the whaler Discovery, used in tho 1910 expedition, thereupon loaned tho vessel for relief. Sho will leave in a few days and will be towed most of tho journey, to save time. It i«-considered that the effort that -Sir Ernest Shackleton is now making will have little chance of success.
