The Hon J. Allen. Minister of Defence, arrived in Christchurch from Dunedin last night, and went on to Wellington

Lady Ward returned to Wellington last evening.

Mr J. J. Kinsey returned from Wellington to-day. Mr A. W. Bennett, general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from the north to-day. Visitors to Christchurch to-day include Messrs T. H. Norton (LoudorA G. Gray (Dunedin), J. Grimmond (Westland), I. A. James (Greymouth) and' J. A. Taylor (Wellington). At a special meeting of tho Glentunnel School Committee held yesterday to consider the appointment of a mistress, the committee decided to endorse tho board's decision in tho appointment of Miss J. S. Sloa.no.

Lieutcnant-ColonoKHutchen, who was mentioned in despatches yesterday, is a native of Wellington. Prior to _the war he was accountant to the_ inited Insurance Company. He left New Zealand with the Main Body, <as captain attached to the Army Pay 'Department. His work in Egypt in the organisation connected with this branch of the service soon brought deserted recognition and rapid promotion. Mr John Fuller, jun., senior member of the Wellington City Council, will leave soon for Sydney, where ho will be associated with his brother, Mr Ben Fuller, in the headquarters management of the affairs of the Fuller Vaudeville Proprietary, which at present controls a. complete circuit of theatres devoted' ,< to permanent vaudeville throughout Australasia. Mr Walter Fuller will he general manager for tho firm in New Zealand. Lieutenant F. A. Anderson, of the Fifteenth Reinforcements, was entertained ;:t a gathering of residents of St Martins last evening, at tho residence of Mr Andrew Anderson, on the occasion of his final leave. F. Wilding, en behalf of the residents., presented Lieutenant Anderson with a pallor' field glasses. Speeches of a eulogistic character wore made bv Messrs F. Wilding, J. T.ongton. (". Ho.welh W.
