Wilson, A. V. "Wont, W. G. Young and J. Ycates. RECRUITING BOARD'S STATEMENT. SUCCESS OF NEW SCHEME. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 1. The following statement was issued to-night by the Recruiting Board: listments for tho infantry for the Kith Reinforcemnts, duo to go into camp this week, have been very satisfactory on the whole, absolutely so in those districts where the board's scheme has been in operation or, as in the case of Auckland, where a live campaign has been conducted. The Auckland and Otago districts have enlisted more men than their quota. Canterbury is only ninety men short, and this is mainly owing to a shortage in Group No. 9, with headquarters at Cliristchurch City, whilo Wellington district has reduced its shortage to 142. The total net shortage for the Dominion for the 16th Reinforcements is 172 as compared with a shortage of 643 for the loth Reinforcements at a corresponding date last month. It -will thus be seen that the operation of the new recruiting scheme has effected a marked mentThe following table shows the position of enlistments for the 16th Reinforcements in the several group areas as on Saturday last:—

SIXTEENTH REINFORCEMENTS. The shortage in the quota of infantry from Christdiurch for the Sixteenth Reinforcements, duo to leave for camp to-morrow evening, had been reduced to forty-two. at midday to-day.
