MR HUGHES IMPRESSED. "I AM CONTENT AND SATISFIED." By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Oopyrignt. (Received May 2. 9.5 a-ra.) LOXDOX. May 1. Mr Hughes " was d'eeply impressed by :a visit to'the fleet. Wluui interviewed, he said: " I have seen the mightiest '.instrument of power ever fashioned by man, stretching away to the far horizon in numbers seemingly endless. I have seen the invulnerable Navy behind whose ample cover the Empire has rested sinco the outbreak of war, and still rests in perfect security. I havo spoken to men into whose hands the Empire has entrusted the care of this embodiment of its power, this bulwark of it's safety. I am content and satisfied that tliesa are the men who will not fail us. They realise that upon them rests the safety, not oply of Bri- I tain and the-Empire, but of eivilisa- 1 tion, and. they are quietly' confident, because the pxilscs of youth leap in their veins. In them is the moral force springing from the most glorious traditions. lat them lives tho spirit which led Drake and' Nelson; to victory. • " We may bend every energy to the prosecution of the war with tho certain assurance that Britain's command of the seas is safo in their hands."
