King Albert, who is many ways ono of the most unconstitutional monarchs in Europe, believes in finding out things for himself. One night, d'uring the present war, a Belgian sentry who was guarding a battery, suddenly found himself confronted by a tall, heavilycloaked man. who requested to be allowed: to pass. "Not this way," said the sentry. "Will you lot mo pass for a hundred- francs?" said tho cloaked man. "No," snid the sentry. "Will you ler, me pass for a thousand francs?" asked the stranger. No." repeated the staunch Belgian soldier. " Then will yon do it for vour King?" asked tho stranger, and drawing aside his cloak, revealed the fifiuvo oE tho King of the Belgians. There had been stone-! of irencherv ahoat, and King Albeit was testing them'tor himself.
