PERSONAL.

Mr "W. F. M. Buckley arrived from the north this morning. Messrs P. A. Bruford, J. H. Spence and G. D. Greenwood arrived from the north to-day.

Miss Thurston, lady superintendent of" the Christchurch Hospital, leaves for Wellington to-night, en route to England, where she is to take charge of the New Zealand Military Hospital at YValton-on-Thames.

The Rangiora High School Board last evening appointed Mr F. R. Callaghan, M.A., to the position of assistant master at the school in succession to Mr S. A. Clark. Mr Callaghan is at present master of the secondary department of the Geraldine- District High School. The members of the board of directors of ihe Y.M.C.A. said farewell to Mr A. lvave, a fellow-member of the board,' at a luncheon held on Monday at the .vssoeiation building;. Mr Joh:i 7 Rovds, president, was-in the chair and wished Mi- and Mrs Kaye a, pleasant voyage Home and a safe return to New Zealand. Several of the directors spoke of the long and' faithful service of Mr Kaye in connection with the work of the association and various civic and philanthropic bodies with which he is connected.

On Tuesday night a- well attended social gathering was held in the Durham Street South Church to bid farewell to the Rev J. Cocker and family. Mr T. T. Robson, circuit steward, presided, and referred to the good work which Mr Cocker had done in connection with the central mission. Mr W. H Stephens presented Mr Cocker with a number of books, including a portion of Hastings's Encyclopeadia of Religion and Ethics- Mrs J. Steel and Mrs Carr presented Mrs Cooker with a cafce stand on behalf of the ladies of the congregation, and Mr , Hitchings, on behalf of the Sunday School, presented her with Bridge's poems. _ Books were also presented to Misses Nellie and Lily Cocker in recognition of their work as organists in the Sunday School and Christian Endeavour, Mr Swaby. tno choir leader, also made them a present on behalf of the choir. Tho Rev anu Mrs Cocker thanked tin; spt-akors for their words of- appreciation.
