ASHBIiRM. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday, the chairman (Mr D. G, "Wright) presiding. The ladies of the '"' Florence Nightingale" stall presented a flag to the association, which had been responsible for £2B 10s being realised by auction. The flag bore the particulars of the occasion and the date, and the association was asked to have- it hung in the rooms as a memento of the occasion. The flag was accepted, and a yote of thanks was accorded to the ladies. The- secretary of the Ashburton NoLicense Council, the president and secretary of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the president and secretary of the ••'Y ! ' branch of the W.C.T.U. protested against alcoholic liquor being procurable on tho ground at the recent show. The protest was in reference to a certain side show. The president stated that neither the members of the committee nor himself had any knowledge of the matter, and it was regretted very much that such a thing had taken place. He woidd assure the representatives of ■the societies named that the association would take every precaution in future to guard against a similar occurrence. A resolution was carried thanking the Mayfielcl school pupils for the splendid exhibit of farm roots and collection of noxious weeds at the recent show. The chairman stated that a special resolution thanking the workers who had assisted in raising such a substantial sum at the recent show for the Sick and Wounded Soldiers Fund would be passed at the annual meeting. It was decided to place on record the valuable assistance given the association by Mr Hunter Morris, who had enlisted.
