Kitchingham) with a wrislet watch each. .•••- I regret to again- have to draw the attention of the Tramway Board to the fact, that while the Clyde Road :ars are practically running empty to and from the city, many passengers are iraiting at Church corner. The longdistance passengers are the ones who proyideltne revenue, but are the least considered by the board.

Nominations for the Wharenui School Committee close on Monday evening at 8 p.m., with the chairman, Mr F. G. Coombs, Peverel Street.

The Johnston family at Yaldhurst are doing their 6hare towards sending men to the front. One son and two grandoens have_ already gone, while another one is doing his best to get into the Aviation Corps.

The Upper Riccarton Ladies' Hookey Club held its a'nnual dance in the Oddfellows' Hall-on Thursday evening, and it proved a great, success, the hall being filled to its utmost capacity. was supplied by Mr Reg Woods, while Mr R. Wilson proved an efficient M.C. During the" evening Mr Brooks gave jv violin solo, which was much appreciated. Dancing was kept up till 2 a.m. .

The many friends of Mr E. G. Staveley will be sorry to know that he is laid aside with a serious illness. Mr Stavelev is a well-known auctioneer and chairman of the Saleyards Company. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery.

A movement is on foot to start a W.E.A- class within the borough, and it is to be hoped that residents will do their utmost to support this step in education matters. A meeting is to be held.shortly to discuss the matter, and as the W.E.A. is non-political and nonsectarian, it should command the support of a large number of residents.
