EVENTS OF THE WEEL [From Ot/r Correspondent.] PATRIOTIC? GARDEN FETE. Last Tuesday's meeting of the Gala Executive saw the beginning of arrangements in connection with the big function which is ,to -be held' at the Mayor's residence and grounds, " Ayebury," Richmond, on Saturday, February* 12, at 2.30 p.m. The proceeds; will he in aid of the Patriotic .Fund. Tho effort is really a continuation of the ■Gala, and was approved by the Gala Executive at one of its .early meetings. On the Mayor's suggestion the name " Patriotic [Garden. -Fetei iand Soiree Mnsicale" was approved. There will be- sixpenny return tram fares via the North Beach line, and the cars will convey patrons_ right up to the grounds. Admission tickets Is, will' be on sale immediately, entitling holders to afternoon tea. etc. The attractions comprise afternoon tea, fruit salad and ice-cream stalls (run by a committee of ladies, who will provide the sandwiches and fruit salad). "Catch the bobbin,'' fortune telling, pig and sheep guessing competitions, shooting gallery, croquet and bowls, while in the'"evening probably two concerts will be given. In addition, Mr Drayton; lias kindly consented to give a picture show in the tennis court en-, closure. The Marine Band, und'er Bandmaster Blyth, or the Rambles orchestra will play in the grounds, both-after-noon' and evening. A feature of the evening attractions will be the illumination of the grounds' bv the Christchurch Tramway Board. Other attractions are being arranged, and altogether, indications point to a verv successful affair. By its aid it is hoped' that another £IOO will be added to Brighton's contribution to the Patriotic Fund. GALA FINAL MEETING.

It was decided to send a letter of condolence to Mr D. M'lnteh, on the occasion of the ; loss of his wife. The committee resolved that the green should bo open for friendly play until 4 p.m., and for tournament play after that hour.Attention was drawn to Rule ~<J. which, sets forth that members who have not paid their subscriptions are not eligible to play in club tournaments or outside matches. It was reported that there were only three lockers still -available. The land agents' section has decided to hold another open-air concert and sale of gift goods in Brighton, probably <?n February 19. The section is organising a concert party, who will perform at this and other concerts to be given in Christchureh and suburbs in aid of the fund. Owing to the short notice, many were not asked to subscribe oi 1 assist by gifts at the last function, and the committee would be pleased if those willing to assist would leave subscriptions or gifts in land at }lrs Evelyn ClaTk's office, Brighton. ELECTRIC LIGHT FOR BEXLEY. Poles to carrv the electric light wires are at present "being erected in Bexley, under the supervision of Forman F. V. Gwatkin, for the Heatheote County Council. By the time winter is here the hitherto unlighted spaces of Bexley will be . properly illuminated, a fact which will no doubt cause the residents of Brighton to sit up and take notice. FORESHORE THEFTS. Several mean thefts are reported to have taken place, on the foreshore during the heavy bathing of the past few days. In one case a prominent rnsi-, dent laments the loss, of an almost new Loewe pipe, which ho placed in his coat pocket prior to bathing. In other easels money was taken. BRANCH OF SURF CLUB. Arrangements are in progress for the formation of a branch of the Surf Club for North New Brighton. At the last meeting of the club Mr A. 11. Blank attended, and explained the intentions of . the North Beach residents, and as axesult a reel was loaned to him. Matters have now been carried further, and to-morrow at 10.30 a.m., at Thompson's Camp, Bowhill Road. a. meeting will be hold, at which nieuilxws of the Surf Club committee and all enthusiasts, together with the North Brighton residents, are invited to be present.
