WELLINGTON'S RESPONSE.

SATISFACTORY RECRUITING. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON,' January 12, Defence Headquarters was able to Woort to-night that the Wellington military district's .. quota for the Twelfth Reinforcements had been sent into the camp complete in all details. There was a shortage of infantry recruits in the Wellington city draft but it was covered by recruits sent in from other parts of the district. Recruiting in the city has been particularly good during the last day or two. No fewer than forty-two men passed as medically fit, being registered at the Buckle Street office yesterday. .' The city has been called span for many men lately to fill gaps in the camp, particularly in connection with the Eleventh Reinforcements, and tin; fact is believed to explain the shortage reported on Tuesday, when the Twelfth were mobilised. Auckland's quota for the Twelfth Reinforcements, consisting of some 600 men, .reached Wellington to-day and was reported to be at full strength. The Canterbury draft is due here tomorrow, and the Otago draft will arrive on Friday. The exact position will not be known until mobilisation ia complete, but there h reason to believe that the Twelfth Reinforcements -n-ill be brought to full strength by the of the week. The Defence Minister informed a reporter that the response to the call for. the Twelfth Reinforcements had been very much better than in cht case of the Eleventn.. He hoped .rhen mobilisation was complete on Friday that it would be found that the ranks of the latest Reinforcements had been filled and the Defence Department was to have no anxiety on that score. The shortage reported in connection with tixe Eleventh Reinforcements had been allocated to various districts, and he was informed that Wellington district had found nearly all the men required from it to fill the gaps in that draft. The extent of the response from other districts had not yet been reported, but he hoped to have both the Eleventh and Twelfth Rirtforcements complete within a week.
