Tiie vote lor a million moil was carried amidst most remarkable scenes. A body of Liberals at midnight demanded an adjournment, alleging that it was a scandal that a decision of such importance should be left to a starved .jury. Mr A. Lynch alleged that tho impotonce of Rri tain's, military leaders had nullified the valour of their troops again and again. Mr Oufchwnito denounced as -unnecessary tne operations at Gallipoli and elsewhere, when it was obvious that the war must he decided on the western front. Mr Joseph King said that t,he next great attack- on the west was more likely to succeed .since Sir John Freijpli liatl resigned. A single member of the Cabinet and three Under-Seci'etarie.s of the. Treasury were now nodding nn; the Treasury "Bench while other Commoners were snoring on the benches. Some members should bo fetched out of their beds in the National Liberal Club to make m> a quorum. The malcontents repeated!v moved the adjournment, but the Government wn.s adamant. Mr Dalziel said' that hundreds of thousands ot lives had been wasted bv the stupidity of tho War Office and the Generals who were responsible for men dying of thirst at Suvla were, still in command. Mr MacKenna displayed wonderful endurance. Tie was full of fight to the last, and secured the vote after fourteen hours of struggle.
