AN ANTI-CLIMAX.
SYDNEY PRESS COMMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received December 23, 10.15 a.m.) SIDNEY, December 23. The papers are gratified at the fact that the Gallipoli withdrawal was achieved at such light cost, but express disappointment that tho glorious achievements and sacrifices of the Australians and New Zen landers should have 'proved resultless. The "Herald' 3 says "that the withdrawal was desirable, if possible, there can be very little doubt-, even if' it hhd not been in accordance with the advice of three very distinguished officers.' i Tho "Telegraph" says:—"Tho retirement is dramatically disappointing; it is an anti-climax to the Dardanelles t campaign, Tho moral effect is likely
to bo quite as disproportionate to its material importance, and will assuredly give new heart to the Turks, and cause them to believe thai they are w inning the war, a delusion -which can only tend to make tin: prospect of peace more remote.''
